Who we are
India Drive Safe (indiadrivesafe.com) is an independent, privately run road-safety information website. It is not a government website and is not connected with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, any Regional Transport Office or any police force. You can reach us at contact@indiadrivesafe.com.
What we collect
- No reader accounts. There is no sign-up, login or newsletter for readers, so we do not hold names, phone numbers or addresses of readers.
- Knowledge test answers. When you finish a test we store the questions you were given, your answers, your score and the time taken, under a random code. This record does not contain your name, email address or IP address. Anyone who has the link to a result page can see that result, so share the link only if you want to. We use the combined, anonymous answers to find questions people often get wrong and to improve the guide.
- Session cookie. The site sets one strictly necessary cookie (
PHPSESSID) to keep a test in progress working and to protect forms. It contains a random identifier only and expires when you close your browser. - Server logs. Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically records technical details of each request, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These logs are used for security and to fix errors, and are kept only as long as the host's normal retention period.
- Email. If you write to us, we use your email address and message only to reply and to act on what you asked. We do not add you to any list.
Advertising and cookies from Google
To cover the cost of running the site, India Drive Safe shows, or may show, advertisements served by Google AdSense.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at www.aboutads.info.
- When ads are running, visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent through Google's consent message before personalised ads are shown.
Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Ads are chosen by Google, not by us, and showing an ad does not mean we recommend the product.
Other services the pages use
- jsDelivr. Page layout files (Bootstrap) are loaded from the jsDelivr content network, which receives your IP address in order to deliver them.
- Google Search Console. We use Search Console to see how the site appears in Google Search. It does not place cookies on your device.
- We do not currently use analytics cookies. If we add an analytics service, we will update this page first.
Children
The guide is written for learners and drivers, and young people preparing for a learner's licence are welcome to use it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Parents or guardians who believe a child has sent us personal information can write to us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the guide still works, although a test in progress may restart. Because we hold almost no personal data, most requests can be answered quickly. If you have sent us an email and want it deleted, or have any question about your data under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, write to contact@indiadrivesafe.com.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
