Junctions are where traffic streams cross, so they are where many crashes and most arguments about right of way happen. Safe turning starts long before the junction: choose your lane early, slow down, check beside and behind you, signal in good time and look for pedestrians and two-wheelers.
This section explains left turns, right turns and U-turns, who gives way at controlled and uncontrolled intersections, and how to read traffic lights, arrows and flashing signals. At an uncontrolled intersection the rule is to give way to traffic approaching from your right, but signs, signals, police directions and the major-road rule come first. A left turn on red is allowed unless a sign prohibits it, and only after giving way. Jumping a red light is treated as dangerous driving under Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
