Badly parked vehicles block footpaths and junctions and force pedestrians into traffic. Careless reversing hurts children and older people who are hard to see from the driver's seat. Both are easy to prevent.

Regulation 22 of the Motor Vehicles (Driving) Regulations, 2017 lists where you must not stop or park, including crossings, junctions, bends, bus stops and footpaths, and Regulation 18 limits reversing. Section 127 of the Motor Vehicles Act allows illegally parked and abandoned vehicles to be removed. This section explains where to stop, how to leave a vehicle secured, how to open doors safely and how to reverse only as far as needed, after checking all around.
