Trucks, buses and tractors are heavier, slower to stop and have large blind spots. Sharing the road safely with them means staying where the driver can see you, never cutting in front, and giving them room to turn and stop.

For people who drive large vehicles, Indian law adds specific duties: heavy and slow vehicles keep to the left lane, loads must be secured and must not project or exceed the registered height and weight, and passengers may not ride on running boards, roofs or tractors. Overloading carries a fine of ₹20,000 plus ₹2,000 for each extra tonne under Section 194 of the Motor Vehicles Act, and most buses and goods vehicles must be fitted with speed limiters.
